Coldworking includes all the processes involved in the edging and polishing of glass bits, whatever the finished product might be. I have included a page devoted to coldworking because we seem to spend a good deal of time, in our studio, engaged in one such process or another. The first step in having a finished edge to a piece is to grind the edge on a succession of diamond laps. If the piece is to be kilnworked, often the heat is sufficient to achieve a final "fire" polish. If not, the edge, or facet, can be brought to a high polish with cerium oxide and a felt lap or wheel.
